Apparently there are many who would rather spend a day in court trying to argue this than just paying the damn thing.

I was once that way. I got a ticket for 19 over. I discussed it with the cop at the time. I was shown how radar worked (and saw the cop measure a building at 43 mph). I researched the state and county laws, measured the road width, took pictures of the road and overhanging branches from where the cop was parked, identified visibility ranges, did some pythagorean calculations, brushed up on radar theory, and went to court at 8AM ARMED with PROOF that the cop was wrong.

I waited for all the schmoes who decided to or had to show up to plead not guilty or guilty. All the guilty guys got to go first. I couldn't do anything but sit there waiting (no reading of a paper or magazine, no gum chewing, not nothing). Had to watch several guys get arrested (second or third DUI), and then we broke for lunch. After lunch, had to start through all the not guilties, going with the cop with the most tickets down to the fewest (my guy of course). Long about 2:20 PM, I got to get up in front of the judge, and with a white board and erasable markers, diagrammed out how it was mathmetically impossible for me to be guilty. The judge looked at everything I had, and said I should explain it to the guy who runs the saturday traffic school.

I lost a work day, a saturday, and my court costs exceeded the fine if I had paid it by mail, I had to pay for the saturday school also.

So, if you don't collect tickets frequently, I'd just pay it. Most insurance companies I know of won't ding you for one ticket.

If the cops have it out for you and you seem to be unjustly ticketed more than the average guy, you might want to go ahead and fight it if you want. Just know it will likely cost more to fight than pay.

If you are in bonus points with your insurance company, you might want to find a different way of getting your only daily kick.

Based on what you posted, I'd just pay the thing and be done with it.

Then, I'd go down to the local Dunkin Donuts for a boston creme and cup of regular, sit in the parking lot enjoying them, and know I felt better than the cop who gave me the ticket, because I'd be in a Saab, and he is probably in a Crown Vic.
