.2 mi = 1056 feet.
58mph at distance means he clocked you for 12.4137931 seconds between 1056 feet.
That's average. If you were accelerating during that time, you had to peak higher than 58mph.
Now, let' say he's off a little bit...
1000 ft at 12.41 seconds = 55mph
950 ft at 12.41 seconds = 52mph
900 ft at 12.41 seconds = 49.4mph
850 ft at 12.41 seconds = 46.7mph
800 ft at 12.41 seconds = 44mph
1056 ft (.2 mi) at 60mph = 12 s
1056 ft (.2 mi) at 55mph = 13.1 s
1056 ft (.2 mi) at 50mph = 14.4 s
1056 ft (.2 mi) at 45mph = 16
1056 ft (.2 mi) at 40mph = 18
1056 ft (.2 mi) at 35mph = 20.6
It's quite close to call, but my guess is that with traffic, a short distance, and him speeding up, something got messed up... Distance or time. Plus his perspective is changing with respect to you and landmarks as he moves. Unless there are lines painted on the road that make it clear and simple to know you passed exactly .2 mi, that will mess up the calculation. on such a short distance small mismeasurments will cause huge differences in your calculated speed (as shown above). If he's going on the odo on his car that is in tenths of miles, did he time at EXACTLY .2? You need to know how he came up with the distance and the time, and they both better be accurate.
