The local gas station may decide to jack prices around by a quarter or two per gallon to increase that businesspersons profit, but that is not normally related to oil companies decisions.
As an industry, the average profit is in oil is about 5.8% of revenue.
Average profit in a US business is about 5.5%. Banking/financial sector profits are in the teens.
Oil industry sets a record because of the size of the revenue dwarfs banks, but banks are where the real obscene profits are being made.
