I have no problem with making profits

My question is: How can these profits be so unbalanced while still being legitimate? I just can't believe that their executive brothers in other industries aren't being more coercive, something is lagging here. Also, Exxon isn't alone in obtaining these obscene profits, its just that their recent profits are the most remarkable. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen one lick of evidence to prove that they aren't gouging the consumer in one way or another. Look at it, its built into their profit structure.
And don't even get me started on how influential the U.S. Gov is upon the price of crude oil and other energy sources.
Please keep in mind that my considerations on this subject go far beyond the price of gasoline. Today I have been looking more specifically at the effect this is having on the bottling and packaging industry. This connection of course was no surprise to me, but yet I am amazed at how far reaching this industry is. It is literally ingrained into every facet of our consumer lives.
