I wouldn't buy one UNLESS you get one CPO. I bought a 2000 CPO 9-3 and it has literally saved me thousands, probably close to 4k in repairs. The things that seem to commonly go are the ac system, turbo, DIC cassette, and SID display. For me, I've had the ac system and turbo fail. Under the CPO I also had my left front strut and associated parts replaced, the right front wheel bearing replaced, hood badge, pillar tape, and headlight bulbs. If the car you are looking at is around 60k miles, make sure the 60k service has been done and hopefully the serpentine belt and idler pully has been replaced too. If the serp belt and idler pulley go, you are SOL and stuck. However, with that said, I HAVE enjoyed my 9-3. Great road trip car, fun, and plenty of room, and pretty comfortable.
Good luck.
