Do they still teach new drivers to pop the car into neutral, or has that practive been abandoned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the engine is still driving the transmission (through the torque converter) while you're slamming on the brakes.
In any emergency situation, I've clutched and braked simultaneously. 22+ years shifting gears in cars, 27+ if you count farm tractors (without synchros). Seconds nature at this point.
BTW - my wife also prefers manual transmissions. Plus having manual trannies keeops the inlaws from driving your car(s).
