OT: Computer printers...ARGGG!

WHY can't HP or Canon make a reliable decent printer that does not drive even the most savvy computer users crazy?
In a moment of clarity I decided to extremely modify my Canon Inkjet printer into about 50 pieces. IT FELT GREAT!
I bought this Canon as a replacement for a failing HP printer that needed to be reinstalled everytime before you could print. (thanks to HP and Win-XP for that problem)
After a 2.5 years and very little use the Canon decides it needs to have about 1 hours worth of cleaning and re-aligning before it will spit out even the simplest BW page of text. I put up with this for about 6 months, and maybe a dozen times of doing this litte dance, then finally even the cleaning would not work.
Thus, I decided that my time is worth more than this printer. I chose to not to waste another minute trying to get it to work and reduced it to a pile of rubble it already was.
In this moment of clarity I realized what a racket this printer market is. Even if yours happens to work you are probably still spending way too much for ink cartridges. And by the time yours starts to malfunction, the print company and windows has already moved on and would rather sell you something new than support or back up their own products.
On principal I will not give either of these companies another cent. I am tempted to emial Canon a photo of their newly Improved "I-860".
But the real question is: What brand of printer should I get now?
Jim
