I was having similar problems w/ my HP printers (inkjet w/ drying issues) and finally decided to get a "good" printer. I would up buying a Brother MFC 8840DN, last Christmas '05. I occasionally need to make copies and send faxes in addition to the printing so this was a great solution. My re-manufactured units was $340 with the rebate so a little pricey, but I have been very happy.

The MFC 8840DN is a laser printer, scanner, flat bed copier, and fax machine all in one and works well. It also has a built in network card, I have it networked on my DSL router and print from any of my computers (4) easily (Win 98, 2000, XP) I love the flexibility and nice quick, clean, crisp prints. After I got mine, I suggested this unit to my buddy who is a tech guy and he bought one as well and likes it. It had good reviews and I really like the flat-bed and auto-feed capabilities.

It was a great price then and even better now at ~$250.

Just my 2 cents, maybe a worthwhile solution for you.
