...and the larger the outer diameter the slower tires wear out.
Larger outer diameter tires take bumps and rougher terraine better.
Tires with less side wall handle better, but give a rougher ride and are prone to side wall damage.
Mostly though it is aesthetics. People's eyes are drawn to a wheel well that is more occupied with rim... to a point.
