I agree with Chaz on getting an attorney. At least here in Houston, you can get one to represent you on a traffic ticket for $50.
The judges, cops, and lawyers for both sides all know each other, and they're smiling and joking with each other as they rush through these cases that can be important to your livelihood. Without a lawyer, you are working against a serious home-court advantage.
In one case I had in Houston, we all went there and sat for a couple hours, then our lawyer called a list of about twenty names to go see him in the hall. He told us all our cases had been dismissed for some kind of a flaw in the case. The lawyer knows how to look for all the kinds of things you mentioned and more.
In another case, in a Harris County JP court, the lawyer was able to get me deferred adjudication, even though I was going faster than usual limit for deferred adjudication. I had to pay some fees on that one, but the beauty of deferred adjudication is that after 90 days with no tickets, the violation is off your record.
After those two experiences, I'll always get a lawyer whenever I get a ticket. It's well worth the cost.
