Another vote of respect for minivans

I'm 32, so I grew up in a family of 6 when minivans were in high style in the 80's/early 90's. (Even though they didn't look that great).
Nothing beats them for car based (economical) capacity. Whether it's people or stuff from Best Buy. The old ones had bad transmissions, but good fuel economy. I could drive 7-8 hours on a tank of gas, hauling hundreds of pounds of cargo. Newer ones still do better than SUVs for fuel economy, cargo, and looks.
If you don't need full people capacity, take out the middle seat for a combination limosine/cargo hauler. I've used them for the ocassional item too big for my C900 hatchback.
We had a caravan at work for a while too. Made more sense than a big van or SUV for lots of things. Lots of space on the side for advertising signage, lots of room inside for tools.
Minivans get excellent traction with snow tires. While not always up to Saab safety standards, they should do better than most SUVs as they are not as prone to rollover or other such imbalances.
