The 2nd gen Ody has a notorious transmission too, requiring requiring replacement before 100k miles with some frequency. Actually Honda gives you a free one if it fails under 100k, so I don't worry about this too much. This spring I'll be adding a transmission cooler, oil thermostat, and a Magnefine filter to ours for added longevity, and using Specialty Formulations synthetic Z1 ATF. Apparently it's taken Honda a while to get the V6/5-speed auto combination right.
We have the EX with power sliding doors, and those parts are seriously expensive if they need repair. My long-term plan (we're out of warranty next month) is to convert the doors to manual opening if they ever need major work.
Ah well, every car has its quirks. At least there's no turbo or SID to fail :)
