My Saab story started in '99. after a Saab test drive set up at the Brookline Museum of Transportation. I drove a 9-5 Linear wagon and a 9-3 Viggen. Got hooked on the Viggen immediately and ordered a 5 door Lightning Bluw Viggen which arrived in November.

Loved it...good build quality and true Saab feel to it. After a while I wanted a bigger car and wanted to go back to a wagon (previous car was a Volvo 850 Turbo wgn).

Sold it and bought an '03 9-5 Aero wagon (cosmic blue). I still have it today. Only 30K on it, most comfortable car I've ever owned. Great build quality, solid feel, and only issue has been a leaky A/C condenser and an alternator bearing that required a new alternator. Best road trip car I've owned too. Recently it went from LA to Lake Tahoe to San Fran and back, averaged close to 30mpg, and was a dream to be in. Find me a better all around car than that!!

Bought a yellow '91 900TC in 2003 as well....sold it in later 2005 for a new 9-3 Aero convertible. Biggest mistake I ever made. The 900 was a true Saab through and through....the sound, the feel, the way it drove. I should have kept it forever...but we all make mistakes.

The 9-3 Aero convertible was actually a real disappointment for me. Cheap interior with terrible plastics, lackluster build quality (rattles in the dash after 3000 miles? Come on!), terrible stereo and weak nav system. GM's influence on the '03 and later 9-3s shows a lot of cost cutting. I wanted to love it..but I didn't. It was recently replaced with an '08 BMW 335i convertible. There's simply no comparison in the two cars. BMW build quality is far superior and the overall feel of the car is much nicer. It's no wonder why the newer Saab cars have massive discounts and don't hold their value. There needs to be an injection of quality very soon!

I will keep my 9-5 Aero wagon for a long time to come and will probably look for another yellow or platana grey '91 900TC. These cars evoke a true Saab feeling for me.

If Saab/GM reads this, it's important for them to realize that Saab owners are a loyal bunch...and I still consider myself a real Saab guy. BUT, they need some newer updated products if they are to entice me back into the showroom to buy a new Saab. Right now, they just aren't competitive with their Euro competition, and the lower price points compared to BMW/Audi/MB still don't make them more desireable. Fix the interior quality, keep the turbo 4 cylinder, bring a clean 1.9 liter twin turbo diesel, and you'll definitely get me back.

Cheers,
Paul H.
