The only new cars I've ever bought or leased have been Saabs. The love affair started with a visit to the N. American Auto Show in Detroit in 1997. I loved the uniqueness and the interior and I had to test drive one. Then after I test drove one, I had to have one. And I'm not an impulse shopper by any stretch of the imagination. Something about the way it drove got me hooked.

I still have my 1997 900 S at 133,000 miles and it still looks and drives great. I then bought a 2004 9-3 Linear which is now with my mom. I have a 2006 9-3 2.0 T SportCombi which I like, especially with 28+ mpg average fuel economy.

GM took some of the uniqueness out of the latest Saabs so that they could try to be more competitive, but that hasn't really worked. And they have cut corners in some ways, but the overall safety, efficiency, performance, value equation is better than ever. Old Saabs were very expensive. And in terms of being exclusive and having a unique style, Saabs are still great. But there does need to be less sharing of parts you see with the rest of GM. I like the new radio, but it should look more Saab-like in some way. I also, (for philosophical and functional reasons), really wish that Saab would offer cloth seats in the U.S. I like cloth heated seats the best.

Part of me wants to migrate to Saturn though. I like the Astra and Aura.
