Woah man! Stop the lineworker bashing. You obviously do not know what it is like. I work there. I know. The "$78/hr." Myth has been debunked. It is not true. That includes legacy costs that are not a part of my salary. Toyota workers actually make more than we do. I have had three operations due to feet and other parts of my body failing over the 10 years I have been there. It's very similar to the construction industry where you give up your body for a good paycheck. That said, you would be very surprised to see the level of education in these plants. Many have degrees and even advanced ones. I myself am nearing my engineering bachelors. The work is much more complicated than the 'turn a bolt' thought out there. Now that said there are job guarantees that are not prevalent outside the industry and if you are there long enough there are some pretty easy jobs to coast into retirement. Lineworkers are no different than 90% of Americans and live paycheck to paycheck. That means they are putting their 'outrageous pay and benefit packages' back into the economy. In case you haven't noticed they have cut the workforce by at lest 50% in the last few years. We are making as many cars with 3200 peopleas we did with 5400 when I first started. I suppose that means we're taking it pretty easy ? GM has drained the useful ideas from SAAB. I don't believe it is much more than a development arm of GM for turbo technologies. What is there to sell ? Perhaps SAAB can survive. That'd be great, but I really have my reservations
