I understand your pain and as an owner of an '07 I am feeling the same. That said my 2000 9-3 which basically has the same drivetrain as your 9-5 is still going strong at 200k miles. My only real complaint was frequency of water pump failures (4?!) and the weird camber on the rear axle which your 9-5 should not have. They are consistently more reliable than other near or luxury makes (especially the Germans). If you can afford it good for you, but remember parts are much more expensive on those BMW's too. Resale, yes, dead right. Honestly better off buying a 2-3 year old SAAB, you will take a bath on the resale. Any small techs in your area? A lot of those guys double up on the Volvo's too. Having driven 30-40 year old cars most of my life this dealership thing is a new experience for me. I won't need/miss them when they are gone. If you can't work on your own car, you should seriously think another marquee. Unless of course you've got the time.
