It's pressure treated pine which hurts its resale Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 11 May 2009 15:09:37 In Reply to: WOT: What's this swingset/playscape worth?, B Millar [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 11 May 2009 13:38:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Pressure treated lumber was most commonly treated with CCA, one of the "C"'s stands for Copper, and the "A" stands for Arsenic. For obvious reasons many parents don't want their children around this material. That being said, my kids played on a CCA treated playset, and in a CCA treated sandbox, which I designed and built.
That play set is very impressive! The lumber alone probably has a current market value (if new) of over $1,000. Since the posts are likely set into concrete and would have to be cut off at ground level, you may want to include a dimensioned foundation plan for the new owner to set concrete piers with inbedded post anchors to securely bolt the ends of the cut posts at the new location. But that is just the engineer in me talking.
I would try for $500, and wash it first. No need to re-stain it, let the new owners decide what color they prefer.
BTW - You are only 20? I knew you were still in college but would have guessed you were much closer to graduation.
