I have been licensed in Michigan since 1983, but am now at a point in my career where through necessity (employer is going bankrupt) and/or desire (early retirement to a warmer climate) I will want licensure in an additional State. I will have to apply to each State separately for "Licensure Through Comity", but having all records in a single depository (the NCEES) will speed the process.
The biggest advantage is that it appears the NCEES verifies all employment experiences as you enter them in your Record. I am including the names and address of former supervisors who are now in their 80's to verify the earliest years of my career. It would be much easier to build a Record early, and update it regularly, so all verifications can take place while the knowledgeable people are alive and coherent.
One State I desire for licensure is North Carolina. Their requirements include taking a test to demonstrate knowledge of North Carolina's Professinal Engineering Statutes. The NCEES record will not supplant this requirement, but should eliminate my submitting NC's own experience verification forms.
Assume I submit comity applications to Ohio, North Carolina, and Virginia. The NCEES Record should make these applications much quicker and easier. The downside is the $160 fee.
