I hear you. I have never had a mechanical issue on any of my bikes. Flat tires, yes... issues with shifting? Nope.
I did break a brake cable once... so I have to take that back. that was on my '92(ish) Specialized Hardrock. Cantilever brakes!
I have never heard people complaining about brifters. I have to admit you're the first person I've heard bring up the issue. And I've never seen Lance get support from the van... then again, I don't watch a lot of racing.
