Go for wood in the dining room and marble in the bathrooms.
We got a brand new house in 2003 with ceramic tile in the kitchen and pantry, carpet in the bedrooms, cherry hardwood floors for the rest of the house, and vinyl in the bathrooms.
We went with vinyl in the bathrooms knowing that we would replace the flooring in 18 months but for all those 18 months we hated the tacky look of the vinyl and the way it felt on bare feet. Anyway, we replaced our vinyl bathroom floors with marble -- got it from Costco for a very low price -- and have never regretted it. And the marble isn't too cold in winter. We just use slippers to keep the toes warm.
The hardwood in the house? Our cherry is too soft and the kids have beat the heck out of it. Have no idea how wood would hold up in a bathroom but I bet you'd have to do regular water sealing to ensure it doesn't get destroyed.
As for laminate flooring, some of it can be nice but real hardwood is competitive in price if you shop around. Laminate says 'too cheap' to do real wood but that doesn't have to be the case. Our local Costco has had bamboo recently for a very low price / sq ft.
