We shopped endlessly years back and everyone said that for the money, the p22, available in different finishes (upright) was the sweet spot for price and sound. We caught a friend who played well to try the actual one we bought.
Sad to say, our daughter stayed with the flute and stopped piano, and it sits now in our nyc living room. It has been tuned every year. Kind of a memorial.
Prices on used pianos are down as well. We've advertised it with no response.
This is the piano that all the schools use, but of course, while it was not made in China, i don'y know what they do today. Used, with a pianist helper, is the way to go, you'll get a really good piano for half what you mention. Craigs list.
