Survival of the fittest is just that.
Saab has turned out lackluster crud like the 9-7 etc...
Gone are the days of innovation that is made available to the masses.
The new concept car is just that... a concept that is not yet "ready" for consumption.
I drove in my friends Ford hybrid the other day. I was ashamed to say I was blown away.
Then I took a yellow cab home from the airport and it was an SUV. Turned out it was a Ford SUV hybrid that was giving an NYC taxi driver 40 to the gallon city driving. 40! Not 14.
2 weeks ago I met a couple driving a 2006 VW Turbo-Diesel. 70+ mpg with 900+ to the tankfull before fill-ups, and tons of power.
Where is Saab in all this?
I don't want to sound down on Saab, but if they can't turn out something meaningful then why should I worry.
Currently I own 2 Saabs, down from 5. These next 2 will be sold by this time next year. I used to be a Saab extremist. That was when Saab did things better and was therefor a novelty. That is no longer the case.
I need mileage and dependability and simplicity.
I dont need gadgets and pretty trinkets with gasoline engines.
When my SUV's waranty is up, I will NOT be buying a Saab.
It is sad, but the market has changed, I have grown, my family needs are different.
Just my 0.02
Others may and will differ in opinion.
