I think it depends on single vehicle versus multiple vehicle crash. In a single vehicle crash a light car might not be more likely to roll than a heavy car. However, in a multiple vehicle crash the lighter of the two cars is more likely to get tossed and then the rollover risk is higher with a light car.
Your comment on the wheel direction is interesting. How much of an affect do you think that has once a car gets sideways? If the tires are pointed inward (based upon the lateral roll) the car is more likely to roll than if pointed outwards? The momentum must be pretty large. Can the direction of the front tires have such a large impact?
Is there anything one can really do to avert a rollover or lessen it once the car rolls? Hypothetically, as long as the roof doesn’t crush, isn’t a rollover less impactful on the body than the impact forces might be if the car just stopped? The rollover more gradually dissipates energy.
