I guess that explains why I see so many SUVs upside down in the ditch and almost never a car.
Very light cars might be at degree of disadvantage b/c in road going form, aside from sports cars, they tend to be cheap with poor suspension designs and narrow tracks. However, none of this says anything about weight per se. Weight is one of a number of variables and the primary consideration for weight is probably center of gravity. Furthermore, keep in mind lateral grip is negatively impacted by increasing weight.
Think about it some more now; if you want to build a competitive race car what do you do? You make it low (and concentrate the weight as low as possible in that body), with a wide track, and you make it light as possible and not just for acceleration but corning as well.
