love hearing this stuff. Keep 'em coming!
I've heard enough from non-car enthusiast friends to not be surprised by much anymore. So many people go to dealers complaining about a failure when all they had to do was follow printed directions in the owners manual. Like the guy who complained to the owner of shop where I helped out on occasion that his engine wasn't running well and the oil light was on. When the oil was drained it looked like STP packed with coffee grounds. It had never been changed in over 30K miles and this on single weight conventional oil in the early '70s.
And just yesterday a biz colleague told me her younger sister had managed to run two cars out of oil in as many years.
Please keep the stories coming. There's often stuff to be learned from them. At least most people here seem to be pretty good about maintenance, and many are decent hobby mechanics. Then there are the guys believe too much brute force is never enough!
