It seems theoretically possible they could have done what you suggest, but still highly improbable, although it's still not clear that the ECM would handle a reversed firing order. The sensing mentioned in your following post is more likely just to determine starting position and will assume the order in which the pistons fire remains the same. As for adapter cables, why would such adapter cables exist when it would be much cheaper, quicker, and more conclusive to simply swap in a known good DIC? Seems like a lot of work to create a more complicated solution that isn't even as reliable as the easier method.
