Unless it is a high-end gaming system, most modern computers would probably run fine on as low as 200 Watts.
For example, the system I just built idles at 45 Watts and peaks at 107 Watts (at the plug).
AMD Athlon-II X2 250 (3GHz), 2Gb RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 4200.
All the power supplies above ~400W exist just because of marketing - somehow there is a misconception that more Watts is better.
BTW, a fun fact is that a 200W PC that runs 24/7 consumes ~$400 in electricity per year (take the wattage and multiply by two).
