I'd poke a little fun at you and say it's not about shifting but having 3 pedals, cuz' the manu-matics are pretty cool, and you do shift 'em, some even with rev matching downshifts, alas not Saab. God forbid you should ever spend some serious seat time in one, maybe even on the track, maybe just in traffic...... You might not be so disillusioned with them.

Fortunately lotsa' cars you might care about do come in 3 pedal versions. But there are some remarkably good automobiles that only come in manu-matics, many Ferraris for example and many are documented to have better track and performance times with them. The current killer Mitsu Evo is another example.

Speaking of R32's, VW's dual-clutch manu-matics are one of the best examples, but doesn't one of the Vdubs have a single clutch unit?

As a reformed car salesman sticks are hard to sell. Little availability as there are very few buyers. There are some markets where sticks are practically unheard of, Australia comes to mind. In the US you can find a stick Saab, but in Oz only special order.
