In 1998 or 99 I had a S90 as a rental car on a business trip. I enjoyed it as a rental car, so I went to a Volvo dealer for test drives a while later when the need for a car came up. I asked if I could get a S70 or V70 in manual, and they looked at me like I was crazy. The S70 in the slushbox was a total bore.

Fast forward a weekend or so, we went to the SAAB dealer. Long story short, we ended up leasing a 9-3 in manual and haven't looked back. The utility and fun factor of the 9-3 were an instant hit with me and my wife. Since 2000 we've that original 9-3 AND an SPG, a C900 vert, a 9-3 coupe, a 9-5 aero, a viggen vert, and 9-3SC 2.0T - All with manual gearboxes. They weren't always easy to find, but they're out there.
