I never get this. People always say that they buy automatics because they drive in traffic a lot. When I was in college I got a job that required a car -- I was using public transportation before that point. So before I got my own car I had to borrow my parents car, an automatic. I drove it for two months in very heavy traffic and that was by far the most miserable two months of my automotive life. My right leg was ready to fall off from having to press on the brake pedal all the time. It was torture! I don't know how you people can take it! When I finally got my manual transmission Subaru, I was in heaven. That was 100 times better. Not having to EVER touch the idiotic brake pedal was priceless. Stick in first, car creeps forward at 0.1 mph, use the gas pedal (relatively very light compared to brake) to both accelerate and slow down. My right leg finally stopped hurting... In my commute on Broad Street in North Philly going from Roosevelt to Temple U I almost never had to touch the cursed brake pedal. Maybe 5 times a month, some months never.
