Great point and shoot cameras are less than half your budget. SLR's and even the Olympus Pen are bulky. There are major advantages to having a camera that slips in your pocket. New point and shoots have some pretty awesome lenses and plenty of mega pixels and everything does video. You wouldn't carry a cell phone around your neck would you?
