Killed several brands putting tens of thousands of Americans out of work. Then bragged about their success in subsequent TV commercials.
Built horrible quality trucks for years. My '04 Trailblazer had nothing but massive electrical problems, a total transmission rebuild with less than 30,000 miles on it. Others had rear tail light circuit boards catch fire (there was a recall on that). Lots of friends with GM trucks had nothing but major electrical problems.
"Saved" Saab in the 80's (but that can be argued either way). I would say they bought it and immediately began killing it. Anyone have a '94 900 (first year of GM influence)? I did, and I had to get a lawyer because it was such a disaster. That experience turned me away from Saab for 10 years.
Certainly they homogenized Saab's product line and cheapened the interior I just got out of a lease on an '08 9-3 Aero. WORST interior of any car I've ever owned. And I've owned / leased about 20 cars (including company cars that were GMs).
Forced platform engineering (see item above). This can also be argued several different ways but designing to the least common denominator is one way.
Killed Saab until Spyker forced their hand.
And let's not forget the most disgusting and questionably legal thing going on right now. They got bailed out by our tax money and are now using those funds to contribute to political campaigns. This is unethical, deplorable and borderline illegal.
Yeah, GM is great.
