The driveway / parking lot itself is almost flat. However, there are slopes on both left and right (besides the garage on the right). Left side is a 20-30% slope going up, wooded hill; right side is my garage and my front lawn leading to an increasing drop off. As more and more snow fell, the plow truck became unable to push snow up the hill on the left, while afraid of pushing snow too far to the right (lest the plow truck finding itself skiing down the hill at the end of it). That's why I donated the far deep end of my drive way to the town in winter time for parking snow from the street, so they can have a place to put snow. We are getting so much snow this year however, the snow mounds are drastically narrowing and shortening our driveway / parking lot. We have three cars ourselves, and being reasonably social adults with children, we have visitors from time to time. Our driveway/parking lot can usually accommodate up to a dozen cars in 3+ lanes in summer time, now it's down to a single plowed lane, plus a couple parking spots to the side. I got my 9-5 high-centered and stuck on the side spots a few times when I tried to keep the plowed lane open for guests or the town plow (to push through and put more snow from the street to the far end of my drive way, so they can continue plowing the street).
Another reason why I'm inquiring about snow chain and the traction pads is that the city streets are increasingly occupied by snow mounds in what used to be parking spaces on the side of streets. While my wife's Highlander can climb snow mounts reasonably well (AWD, high clearance and very good approach/departure angles), I have reservations about pushing my 9-5 too far lest it gets stuck on one of those snow mounds more than a dozen miles from home. Shoveling them is quite out of the questions as parking duration is usually only an hour or so for lunch/dinner or shopping stops.
