Apply, get in, study hard, graduate, get a residency, live your life.
All this crap about not liking fellow students is horse$#!t.
Study hard, but also work on interpersonal skills.
Interpersonal skills are in many ways more important, as any monkey can memorize books.
There will always be people in any environment you like, and those you feel less happy about.
Learn to always smile, be agreeable, and avoid conflict.
The art of Medicine is to make everyone feel you like them and respect them.
Get along, find a way to say "YES", and be agreeable.
Keep your feelings to yourself, never argue, never raise your voice, and NEVER speak ill of another or throw someone else under the wheels of the bus.
NEVER gossip!
If mistakes are made (malpractice), patients absolutely deserve full and unbiased disclosure... That means you might not have all the facts. As a student you can jeapordize your career if you speak out of turn without understanding or knowing the facts.
Go to your dean first before you say anything. He/she will know how to protect you while you come forward with your perspective.
Reserve any public comments unless you are personally involved, and discuss everything first with deans, colleagues and malpractice attorneys. Then disclose EVERYTHING after you document properly and truthfully.
(These steps ensure the patients get full/complete/unbiased information while also ensuring you are protected).
Never talk in public spaces like elevators, as thay violates patient's rights to privacy.
Keep your mouth shut unless called upon. Don't be a know-it-all. You will be called upon if they want to know what you are capable of understanding.
Those are the keys to surviving school.
So don't worry about the personalities of the people there. Just concentrate on getting him in. Everything else non-academic is a non-issue.
