I just wonder what percentage of situations are false alarms like this one? I do know there's a huge issue with heightened expectations, that is after a car visits the shop everything that's wrong with it must have been the shops fault. And noises as well as scratches and dents magically appear where they hadn't been before.
I remember in the VW biz in the 90's the dad who was so defensive and indignant that his daughter's wheel had fallen off her Jetta. Subsequent tow in and examination found major damage from what looked like a rock......
