It was a Black Bear, but the thing is I spend a lot of time alone or with just one other person (mainly my wife).
All of this will definitely have me adding bells and pepper spray to my day pack.
Plus I have a case of firecrackers in my garage so I'll make sure and throw a handful of those in as well, won't hurt considering I could just toss a couple in the fire and they sound like a shotgun going off.
As far as gun suggestions go I've decided against buying a rifle at this point, however I will be carrying a Glock 20 (10mm) if I'm alone, just in case. The Glock is free and I'm a good shot with it. Again, one would hope not to have to use it, but at least I know I'm an accurate shot with it.
If anyone can recommend a good round for self defense vs large animals in G20 10mm that would be awesome.
PS: I appreciate everyone's comments on this matter - I did not grow up in bear country so this experience wasn't exactly a "normal" one for me - I spend a great deal of time in areas that you could call black bear country / cougar country, but up until Monday night - I seemed to ignore them and they ignored me. Thankfully I am not in grizzly country (to my knowledge there are no grizzlies on the southern Washington / northern Oregon coast?).
Thanks again everyone, I always know I can trust the community here for just about any topic! Just shows saab drivers really are right brain thinkers ;-)
