Massive difficulties with the head. Bought it with 88K on the odometer, in part because it had just had the head replaced. Within 2K, that head dropped a valve, which then destroyed a piston. I managed to get a new head from the rebuilder at no cost, but the engine rebuild and head cost north of 2 grand. That head lasted about a year and a half (25-30K miles), then cracked. I was then told that that particular head had a design flaw (it was the same head used by Chrysler in their infamous minivan that were head eating monsters), but that I could buy a new head (rather than a rebuilt)and this would make the problem go away; reluctantly I agreed to do this. Car ran fine for about 20K miles.
Then, while merging from the Richmond, VA Interstate bypass onto I-95 north (which merges into the fast lane!), the heater hose on the firewall exploded like a grenade. Because that hose pointed downward, it disgorged the entire contents of my radiator onto the pavement in about 30 seconds, created no visible steam (because I was going about 75), and by the time I could get across I-95 to the shoulder, destroyed that engine.
Other than the head problems, it was a great truck. Kinda like saying "other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?"
Interestingly, I replaced it with a 1994 Trooper (next revision to the brand), and that truck was the best, most trouble free vehicle I ever owned. I drove it from 72K to 240K, with no repairs required (other than maintenance items, it's body and interior always looked great, but I eventually crushed in the "cash for clunkers" deal, because the frame was beginning to rust out at the transmission mounts. I felt like I was betraying an old friend.
