I have owned 15 cars since 1967, English, American, French, Swedish, German, Japanese and Italian, bought new and used, and had another half dozen or so as office cars.

Different strokes, as they say, but almost a half-century of owning cars has convinced me to buy new and keep them for a long, long time. Only one car bought new disappointed - a 1968 Camaro, and only one car bought used - a 1979 Corolla AWD wagon, was all I could ask for.

Knowing that the car has been properly maintained since day one is worth whatever depreciation one eats, and if you keep them for a couple of hundred thousand miles the depreciation becomes much less of an issue.

Right now my wife drives a 2001 XC-70 Volvo with 140K miles and I have a 2006 Saab 9-5 with 105K. Both have been well maintained and will go many more years and miles.
