I hail from DEC, if you remember that company, worked for them for quite a few years, primarily with Unix (mostly BSD and later Ultrix), but also a lot of PDP-11 and Vax work using proprietary DEC operating systems. (Also a smattering of PDP-8 and DECSystem-20 work.)

Having worked in this field for over 30 years (which is not particularly remarkable, I know people who have worked in it much longer) at this point I pick and choose what projects and technologies I'm willing to work on. I don't get involved with home computers, really have no interest in them at all. Likewise I have no interest in ipads, iphones and the like, to me they are just useless toys. (Don't get me wrong, if someone else wants to use them that is their business but I don't deal with them. If someone comes to me with a project involving such devices I say "Thanks, but no thanks.")

My favorite UI remains a text terminal.
