aspired to be "World Dictator." His was always a small minority market share. The very emphasis on profit margin ensured that Apple would not dominate the world. Even after Apple became the world's largest corporation by market capitalization in recent years, the company has a miniscule set of lobbyist and make tiny political donations for its size (and most donations and lobbying effort are of defensive nature).

The firm that operated under the Motto "DOS is not finished until Lotus-1-2-3 stopped working," was an entirely different story . . . although Gates too has mellowed as he matured.

I have always used PC all my life, usually machines built by myself from robust name-brand "generic" components, often running Linux. They have always lasted a long time for me, usually eventually set aside due to power supply fan failure or obsolescence after more than half a decade of service. As computers become more and more appliance-like recently, I am however gradually persuaded by the virtues of some of Apple's designs. For example, there's something to be said of the quietness of some of the Mac's.
