which car is "best"?
What beer is "best"?
which tire is "best"?

Etc, etc. etc.

Macs and PCs both work well for what you need. Some people prefers Macs, just all of us here like Saabs. At the Subaru board they like Subies. Go figure.

PCs are less expensive if you buy them at Wally World or Best Buy, but if you buy one that's really equivalent to a Mac they are about the same price. A business-class PC is the same as a standard Mac.

I've been Mac-only for personal and business use for 20+ years and like them because they work. Few crashes or hangs. And stuff is easily fixed. My clients almost all use PCs (employer requirements) and few really like them. All are at Fortune 500 companies. Almost all my direct contacts at these companies use Macs at home. And those that don't often have Mac envy when I pull out my MacBook Pro in a meeting.

Whatever.

For what you need to do either is fine. But what I think is interesting is how many of my friends and biz colleagues are switching from PC to Mac. But in the last dozen years I can think of only one person who has gone from Mac to PC All the PC to Mac people rave about how great it is. The Mac to PC person continually tries to justify his decision. And still has his Mac.

As for the supposedly Mac-only HDD in an iMac, it's possible. But so what? In 20 years of Macs (12 in all) I've had two hard drives die. One in a machine I bought when it was already 3 years old and it died at 5 years. The other was in a PowerBook that I used as my primary computer 10-12 hours a day for 5 years and took half way around the world twice. Mac HDDs seem to hold up pretty well.

Get what you like and enjoy. Personally, I'd get an iMac if you want a desktop machines and an MacBook Pro if you want a laptop. Or a MacBook Air if your needs are more modest.
