when I asked my insurance company how they would value a car in a collision, they said they compare to recent local autotrader listings for the same model, similarly equipped in similar condition... which is fair enough... the only problem with a c900 is there are so few for sale + the asking prices are so over the map (I've seen everything from $300 to $6000 for a 900s non-turbo locally!), it is hard to come up with an average value...
with respect to classic car insurance, it's actually much cheaper than normal insurance + you can insure the car for a significant agreed value (many owners of pristine c900s have agreed values of 10 or 20k)... but you then are restricted in how you drive the car: no trips to the mall, commuting, etc... basically just enough miles for the occasional sunday drive + car shows... so I haven't gone that route with ours... I figure if they get damaged, I can fix them cheaply... unless they are *really* damaged, in which case, I'd just buy another... so I only pay the base insurance cost + not for all the collision stuff I don't need + save the difference to cover any minor issues... but mine are nice daily drivers, not pristine collector's cars...
