1. The quickest way to lose money is buying into last year's top performers in the months of January through March of a new year. They have tax bills due, and you will be paying for them if you buy into them now.

2. Conversely, this January window is a good opportunity to buy some of last year's worst performers (within reason; e.g. "dogs of dow" etc.) after they have suffered tax loss selling in December. Get rid of them before they get deleted from the lists/indices, of course. Stay married to your spouse, not any stock/company. All companies eventually die.

3. The market is topping a bit here overall. There may be another 0-5% upside in the next few weeks squeezing the pre-mature short sellers, but the market overall is ready to go down soon (at least inflation adjusted, but may well be in nominal terms too).

4. IMHO, inflation will get quite bad in a few months, so position accordingly.

Well, that's what my crystal ball says.
