The Leaf is probably very good for what it is, which is a short range driver for the grocery store and local errands.

I live in a small town which necessitates getting out on the highway to go to places that are 20, 50, 150 and more miles one way. That means a second gas vehicle or one that uses both gas and battery, ala Prius, Honda, or the Volt.

Even the Prius is pretty pricey for its size.

I suppose the other unknown is how long gas prices will stay at 3 - 4 bucks a gallon. We use 1/4 of the earth's oil production in the USA, and there are countries that are going to put huge pressure on the supply, little places like India and China. That price per gallon has to go much higher at some point.
