connectors, connections, switches, pots etc are usually the first things to fail... especially in a damp environment full of vibration... mechanical stuff is the problem!
wouldn't surprise me if even the electronics in the Samsung were repairable (short of a faulty design, or some inferior Chinese knockoff component)... a result of bad connectors or switches or something... but it might be that there are a lot of tiny solder joints to deal with + it's not the same as scraping corrosion off some contacts on a mechanical timer (a connector/switch that failed)...
I own a 9-5 and a couple c900's... the c900 electronics are like the mechanical timer, but they do have more issues + repair efforts many do are more the McGyver sort... more accessible to the general public, but not necessarily better imho (though I am biased, having a quasi-ee background)... funny to see some of the McGyver approaches to fix SIDs (running ball point pens over stuff etc)... and they don't work that well... can be fixed, but takes more technical capability than the average Joe probably has around the house...
