MAYTAG with mechanical timer Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Thu, 22 Mar 2012 07:13:19 In Reply to: Re: Washer and dryer, looking for a quality unit-Speed Quee, ChrisP, Tue, 20 Mar 2012 16:37:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My old Maytag is over 25 years old. Has been great. About 6 months ago the washer would stop mid cycle. I took the timer out and used emory paper to clean the contacts and it runs fine.
I have worked on my daughter's Samsung. Mold problems from the beginning and then she had the motherboard quit.......well the motherboard was only $900+ so she went out and got a standard top load.
I feel fortunate to have mechanical timers in my Maytag washer and dryer. I have done a bit of work on the dryer, like replacing the blower, the best and some pulleys.....all cost less than $80.
I am lucky to have a great parts guy who is a former repairman and is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I am sure there is not much of a market for mechanical timer units......but it is too bad. The computer timers don'w wash any better and cost so much when they fail. IF you have to replace the washer mechanical timer the cost is $100, not $1000+.
Well my 2 cents......
