- As mentioned before, tires and gear eliminate any fuel savings.
- I work downtown and street parking is free outside my building. This saves me at least $100 per month over car parking.
- I lane-share through slowed or stopped traffic on the freeway, thus my commute is a consistent 35 - 40 minutes each day.
- My morning caffeine intake is only six ounces of Diet Pepsi. Riding does the rest. I arrive at work alert, fresh, and with blood well circulated while other zombies clutch $3 to $5 cups of coffee and waddle into the elevators complaining about the chilly morning weather.
- I live in SoCal where I'm rained out at most 15 days per year, there is no ice on the roads and summers are not humid.
- I ride a BMW R 1100 RT which is pretty much an all-season bike with heated grips and an adjustable windscreen. It weighs 650 pounds and is very stable at highway speeds but nimble on city streets.
- I wouldn't get on the freeway on anything less than a 1000 cc bike. BMW brakes (ABS) are legendary and I am comforted by them often.
- I only listen to the bike, traffic and the road. It is nice to be free from talk radio, commercials and all other daze-inducing distractions.
- All in all, I am happy to be out of the cage and out in the open.
