when you look at prices around the world. i agree with simon, most americans have no clue how lucky they are to be paying relatively so little for gasoline.

since the usa imports far more oil that it produces, i think once up and coming countries start demanding and getting more oil (and paying more for it to ensure that), the usa will really see prices start to rise.

having lived elsewhere, with higher gas prices, even though i do not like the "omg gas is so high at $4-5/gal" thinking, i do admit that even i pine for the days of $3/gal gas lol. but, i then think hmm, could be worse than it is...

but, look at how few small high efficiency motors & smaller vehicles are produced & sold here versus the 6L monster power & big ass suv's/cars to see how far as a country the usa really needs to come in changing it's thinking! we complain, and yet we continue to buy big.
