OT: The Next Thirty Years?? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 29 Mar 2012 14:38:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife and I are in our early to mid 50's with projected life expectancies of another 40+ years and retirement somewhere 10 to 12 years out. The last thirty years of our lifes have been focused primarily on our children, birth, childhood, primary school, secondary school, college, etc. and the boys are now adults who don't need (and probably really don't want) the same parenting attention they enjoyed long ago.
So it is decision time for us. What do we want to do with the next thrity years of our lives? We have friends and neighbors who have taken up a second full-time career following retirement from the first, started part-time careers, and some who are our age but retired early and seemingly do nothing but walk their dogs in the park twice a day.
Obviously the decision will be ours alone, but what resources exist to help us with this decision? I guess we are looking for post career guidance information, but it is so much more as it should include rational evaluation of potential relocation, home down-sizing (or up-sizing for some), types of housing, etc.
I am confident there are others here who have faced this same question. Where did you turn for guidance?
Thanks,
