We look with appreciation at what you have done to develop the automotive industry and sustain jobs in the auto industry in the United States. We are Swedish industrial workers who previously worked at Saab Automobile and if our government had done equally significant effort for us, we would have been grateful.
For us, the future of car manufacturing and vehicle development in the hands of a number of potential buyers who have knowledge of the value contained in the Saab brand. All potential bidders have declared their intention to retain the development and production in our region.
The big problem now is that General Motors does not intend to allow the production of cars from Saab. By this action, it is likely that General Motors closes and locks the door to a future in which we develop and manufacture cars.
Mr. President, we are sure that you understand our frustration. We are close to a deal that rescues the Saab brand, vehicle development, our jobs and our industrial infrastructure. The receivers have several potential buyers, but General Motors is not even prepared to negotiate on licensing issues. We add that it is no longer about cutting-edge technology, but of well-known technical solutions.
When we were considering which roads are open to us to go in this situation, we realized that a letter to you could be the best solution. The efforts you have made a few years ago to save General Motors was exceptional. In the process, however, became Saab badly damaged. After nearly five months, we are bankrupt and the time is about to run out.
An initiative from you, in the direction of the management of General Motors, could change the picture completely for us. Saab Automobile has been a niche brand since its inception 1949th There will never be a threat to the large group General Motors.
We hope that you will feel that Saab is worth to be saved. We, more than 4500 auto workers in Sweden, is looking forward to your reply.
With best wishes,
